How do I choose a policy for me?

Whilst policies will have common inclusions such as missing (lost or stolen) luggage, excess charges in the case of rental vehicle insurance, excess or lost fees, including cancellation fees and deposits, expenditures in case of crisis or emergency, liability in case you should be responsible for property damage, bodily injury, or death and life insurance coverage in the unlikely case of accidental death or disability, the actual policy coverage will vary between providers and between policies even by the same provider for example, for Single International trips, you can select either 'International Comprehensive' or 'Elements', the former will provide more coverage. You should also take note of the exclusions of the policy which may include non-compliance with the duty of disclosure, illegal actions, pre-existing medical conditions, certain extreme sports or dangerous activities, and specific activities, such as hunting or rock climbing using support ropes and base jumping. So it all depends on where you're going, what you're going to there, whether you are taking valuable items with you and the level of coverage you're comfortable with.

What if I have a pre-existing medical condition?

If you have an established or pre-existing medical condition, read your policy carefully in order to determine whether or not this condition will be covered by your travel insurance. If your condition is not listed specifically as being automatically covered, you will have to apply for existing medical condition cover. If your condition is accepted, then an additional charge will typically be levied. Another option, if QBE are unable to cover your existing medical condition you may still be able to purchase the travel insurance cover without this cover dependant on the outcome of the assessment. How you choose to handle insuring your medical condition, if any, is a very personal decision. You should gather recommendations from both your doctor and your insurance provider before purchasing your single-trip travel insurance. Be sure to read all wording in your policy so that you are fully cognizant of what benefits and exclusions to expect from your insurance.

Do I need to take a copy of my policy with me when I travel?

It's always a good idea to make copies of your travel insurance policy and leave a copy with a family member or friend and take the other with you when you travel for reference should you need it.
