Single trip insurance
Most trips are enjoyable and accident-free, but when a mishap does occur in a foreign country or unfamiliar place, it can be very stressful. Single-trip insurance serves to alleviate this stress and smooth over the effects of any unfortunate experiences. With single-trip insurance, you ensure that, for any holiday, business trip, or emergency voyage, you will be able to concentrate on the business or pleasure at hand, and not on solving difficult logistical problems.
(Medical expenses are not covered on any domestic travel, unless Australia cruising)
Common Insurance Inclusions
The boons of a travel-insurance package will differ from policy to policy. When you seek a quote, be sure to ask about maximum dollar-amount coverage as well as maximum trip-length coverage. Also, inquire into these typical benefits:
- Missing luggage (lost or stolen)
- Excess charges in the case of rental vehicle insurance
- Excess or lost fees, including cancellation fees and deposits
- Expenditures in case of crisis or emergency
- Liability in case you should be responsible for property damage, bodily injury, or death
- Life insurance coverage in the unlikely case of accidental death or disability
There are situations, however, where your travel insurance will not provide coverage. It is important to know these exclusions ahead of time so that there is no confusion. The wording in the body of your policy may include this information, or it may be found in fine print. Know how exclusions are likely to affect you when purchasing single-trip insurance. Typical exclusions include the following:
- Non-compliance with the duty of disclosure
- Irresponsible or illegal actions
- Pre-existing medical conditions (unless cover is applied for and approved by our Medical Under writing Department on applicable travel plans)
- Certain extreme sports or dangerous activities
- Specific activities, such as hunting or rock climbing using support ropes and base jumping
Established Medical Conditions
If you have an established or pre-existing medical condition, read your policy carefully in order to determine whether or not this condition will be covered by your travel insurance. If your condition is not listed specifically as being automatically covered, you will have to apply for existing medical condition cover. If your condition is accepted, then an additional charge will typically be levied. Another option, if QBE are unable to cover your existing medical condition you may still be able to purchase the travel insurance cover without this cover dependant on the outcome of the assessment. How you choose to handle insuring your medical condition, if any, is a very personal decision. You should gather recommendations from both your doctor and your insurance provider before purchasing your single-trip travel insurance. Be sure to read all wording in your policy so that you are fully cognizant of what benefits and exclusions to expect from your insurance.
